At 1825 interiors, we specialise in furnishings for the family home. As professional home decorating fanatics, we naturally love homewares of all shapes and sizes. We know we’re not supposed to play favourites but we’d be lying if we didn’t admit that prints, signs, mirrors and wall hangings of all shapes and sizes hold a special place in our heart. Read on for our best tips and tricks for selecting and hanging wall art in your home.
Firstly, a great rule of thumb is to hang prints, sign and wall hangings in general 150 centimetres from the floor to the centre of the artwork. This is approximately eye level for a lot of people. It’s also important to make sure that the width of the print is smaller than the width of furniture positioned below it. How much smaller? Well, a print that’s two-thirds the size of the piece of furniture below it (or a tiny bit wider) will look fabulous almost every time.
When deciding on which style of wall art will best complement your home, keep word in mind: balance. Rather than keeping things matchy-matchy, search for a mirror in a style that will balance out the pieces around it. For instance, if you have an ornate or brightly coloured hall or console table, a clean-lined, neutral-toned print can be a gorgeous choice. On the other hand, a print with more colour and intricate details that really catches the eye and brings the whole room to life would be great positioned above a contemporary sofa setting.
