Clocks
At 1825 Interiors, we specialise in furnishings for the family home. As professional home-decorating fanatics, we naturally love homewares of all shapes and sizes. We know we’re not supposed to play favourites, but we’d be lying if we didn’t admit that clocks, mirrors and wall hangings all hold a special place in our hearts. When it comes to selecting such home décor, there are such things as ‘right’ choices—and there is an art to how best to hang each individual item. Read on to discover our best tips and tricks.
Firstly, when hanging clocks, mirrors, and wall hangings in general, a great rule of thumb is to ensure the wall hanging’s centre is 150 centimetres from the floor. This is approximately eye level for a lot of people. It’s also important to make sure that the width of the wall hanging is smaller than the width of furniture positioned below it. How much smaller? Well, a clock that’s two-thirds the size (or a tiny bit wider) of the piece of furniture below it will look fabulous almost every time.
When deciding which style of clock will best complement your home, keep one word in mind: balance. Rather than keeping things matchy-matchy, search for a clock in a style that will balance out the pieces around it. For instance, if you have an ornate hall or console table, a simple, clean-lined clock can be a gorgeous choice. On the other hand, a clock with a rustic timber finish would look great above a contemporary sofa setting.
