A Touch Of Glass: How To Add Sparkle To Your Home

A Touch Of Glass: How To Add Sparkle To Your Home

When we are merchandising in our 1825 interiors stores, our VM team uses glass to add shine, sparkle, sophistication and interest, as well as to add lightness to our displays.

You can achieve the same effects in your home with the strategic use of wine glasses, chandeliers, glass vases, jugs and canisters, even mirrors and glass display cabinets. Let your creativity shine through!

SMALL ACCESSORIES ADD SPARKLE

Glass accessories are often used as centrepieces or decorative items in the home, but you can make your displays stand out by being creative in your presentation.

  • Use empty perfume bottles as decorative pieces. You may have some of your own, stumble upon an antique collection in a second-hand store, or you can buy replicas from homewares stores such as ours.  Group them together on a pretty tray, place them on a sofa table andvoilà!you now have a unique display that showcases your love of gorgeous fragrances!
  • Arrange flowers and foliage in glass vases or jugs for both sparkle and colour and place them in various locations around your home: in the centre of your dining room table or coffee table, on a bedside table, or on a vanity top in your bathroom.
  • Try filling glass canisters of various shapes and sizes with lollies, nuts, cotton balls, biscuits, or even shells. Change their contents as you celebrate different occasions during the year such as chocolates for Valentine’s Day, Easter eggs or colourful Christmas lollies. One of our customers chose a large glass canister to display her rare collection of white tennis balls.

CREATE THE ILLUSION (AND REALITY!) OF SPACE

Glass can also be used to create the illusion of lightness and space. Select furniture pieces with glass doors or shelving such as display cabinets and TV units, or with glass tops such as coffee or lamp tables.

MIRRORS ARE THE ULTIMATE GLASS ACCESSORY AND ARE USED TO GREAT EFFECT BY INTERIOR DESIGNERS.

Hang a medium to large mirror over a buffet, a console table, a bed or a sofa to reflect light and give the illusion of a larger room.

LIGHTEN UP YOUR LIVING AND DINING ROOMS

A beautiful chandelier will add elegance to your living and dining rooms. Chandeliers come in many shapes and sizes, from the exquisite chandeliers at the House of Waterford Crystal in Ireland (pictured), to less ornate, budget-friendly versions more suited to general domestic use.

Chandeliers can be a striking focal point in almost any room of the home. Try hanging a chandelier over a timber dining table, at the top of a grand staircase, or in a foyer. Ornate or minimalist, classic or contemporary, a chandelier is another decorating idea to consider when you want to inject some sparkle into your home.
